The Middle East is often the first region Indian manufacturers look at. Fast-moving distributor and project markets, and strong familiarity with Indian suppliers, make it attractive. That same speed makes it easy to grow opportunistically, and hard to scale.
Demand drivers
Industrial, infrastructure and project activity drive demand. Buyers already know Indian suppliers, so you start with some trust.
Buying behaviour
Decisions can move quickly. Relationships and price both matter, and distributors and project contractors often influence who is specified.
Channel structure
Distributor- and project-led. Coverage often grows step by step from a base market.
Entry considerations
- Choose the distributor model deliberately, not by whoever enquires first
- Set targets and governance from the start
- Price for channel margins and freight
Typical risks
- Opportunistic, distributor-led growth that is hard to scale
- Passive distributors who carry the brand without activating it
- Margin erosion from competing on price alone
Trade agreements
As of 15 October 2026, the India-UAE CEPA has been in force since 1 May 2022 and the India-Oman CEPA since 1 June 2026. A free trade agreement with the GCC is under negotiation. Check official sources before you plan.
